How to resize images

Resize batches of images with the best speed\quality ratio
Resizing large batches of images can be time consuming, but with ImageConverter Plus you have full control over the quality and speed of your conversions. If you prefer quality over speed, choose the“Bilinear” interpolation method. If you need to resize your images ASAP, you choose the “Nearest neighbor” method.
Resize batches of images preserving folder structure
With ImageConverter Plus you have full control over the name and destination folder for your resized images. You can recreate the exactfolder structure of your image collection, or you can put thumbnails right next to the original images and rename them according to rules you set. The renaming feature can be especially useful if you are making several thumbnails of different sizes for the same image – you can add the image size in the file name.
Preview resized image before performing resize
When you resize large batches of images it is very important to be able to preview the actual results before resizing all images. Thumbnails: proportions and shapes
What do you do if a web gallery requires square thumbnails but your photos are 3×4 rectangles? If you just resize the photos to get the right size thumbnails you end up with distorted thumbnails. Right-click resize
Whenever you need to resize images, simply open Windows Explorer (or the file manager of your choice), select the files you want to resize, right-click on them and go to the ImageConverter Plus context menu. From that menu you can either open ImageConverter Plus and specify all the required settings or use a previously saved profile.
Profiles
When you specify your conversion or resize settings in ImageConverter Plus, you can save them as a profile and later use in the program window or context menu. You can have an unlimited number of profiles, saving time so you don’t have to enter the same settings over again.
Destination
You can choose the destination for your resized images directly from the ImageConverter Plus context menu. The menu offers three preset destinations – My Documents, My Pictures and Source path (images will be saved to the same folder where the original files are stored), as well as your most recent destination folders, email recipients or ftp locations, PicasaWeb Album and an option to choose a new destination.
Control the proportions and shape of resized images
ImageConverter Plus has unique options for controlling not only the size, but also the proportions and shape of your resulting images.
Proportions
Most of the time you want your resized images to have the same proportions as the originals to keep them from looking distorted. Use “keeping proportions YES” and “use as horizontal” DPI settings whenever you need to keep proportions for all the images in your batch.
Small images
If you are making thumbnails or otherwise reducing size of your images, you should consider using the“don’t zoom if source image is smaller” option. This makes ImageConverter Plus skip the resize operation for images in a batch that are smaller than the specified dimensions. These smaller images will not be enlarged. Please note that they will still be processed and saved to the destination folder, even if there are no other operations or format changes.
Shape
If you need to resize images with different shapes into a uniform shape, you’ll be using the “fit mode”setting.
“Fit in size” will fit the original image into a new shape (you will have the whole image, but the image shape will be different). For example, if you resize a 1000×500 image to 100×100 using “Fit in size” fit mode, you will get a 100×50 image. If you want to get a 100×100 image, you will have to add a Canvas operation to the profile.
“Fill in size” will fill the new shape with the original image (some parts of the image will be cropped to fit the new shape). For example, if you resize a 1000×500 image to 100×100 with “Fill in size” fit mode, you will get a 100×100 image, but some parts of the original image will be lost. You can specify the alignment of the original image in the new shape.
Real-life questions about resizing with ImageConverter Plus
I don’t know anything about pixels. I just need to cut the size of my images in half. Can you do that?
Sure. Just use the “percent” setting under “Pixel Dimensions” and set it to 50%.
Can I resize more than one image at a time?
That’s exactly what ImageConverter Plus is for! It can convert an unlimited number of your images. By the way, it can even convert all your subfolders and restore the folder structure at your destination.
How can I get better quality resized images?
Just choose the “Bilinear” option for the “Interpolation method” setting. This will give you the best quality. It takes a little longer than the “Nearest neighbor” method, but in most cases that the delay won’t be noticeable.
I need to change DPI. Can you do that?
Not a problem! You can specify both Horizontal and Vertical resolution, or you can keep the resolution of the original file.
I need to resize images frequently, but with different settings. Do I need to specify my settings every time?
Of course not! We have a way to save your valuable time. Save your resize settings in different profiles and re-use them with a single click.
When I convert multiple files, sometimes some of files are smaller than the output size. Can I skip over these files without enlarging them?
Sure! Just check the “Don’t zoom if source image size is smaller” checkbox. These smaller images will still be saved to the destination folder, even if no changes have been made to their format.
All my photos are rectangular, but the site I’m uploading them to requires squares. I don’t want to change the proportions of my photos. What can I do?
This is tricky, but Image Converter Plus can do it! First you need to specify the required square image size in the Pixel Dimensions setting. Then specify how you want to make the image fit – Fit in size will reduce your image to fit it to the specified size. Fill in size will crop the image to fit the size. If you are using Fit in size, you will need to add the “Canvas” operation after resizing to change the size of the resulting image. In the “Canvas” operation settings you will be able to specify the color of the margins. You can also choose transparent margins.
I need to resize some big images – and I mean REALLY big (like poster-size). Can you handle that?
Size doesn’t matter :) ImageConverter Plus has been tested on 120,000,000 px x 90,000 px images. Just make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive. Resizing a 120,000,000 px x 90,000 px image requires 256GB of free hard drive space. So you do the math.
I’m making thumbnails for my website and would like to put my logo on all previews. Can your software do that?
Absolutely. Just use the watermark feature. To get the best quality we recommend you apply watermarks after resizing. (We can even upload your thumbnails to your FTP server.)
Why would I ever need to have different Horizontal and Vertical resolution?
99% of the time you will want to have them the same. This option is for fixing images where the DPI has been set different by other hardware or software.
